Steel Industry in India – An Overview
Steel is a crucial element for any modern economy and is the most considerable backbone of human civilization. The consumption of steel is treated as an important element of a growing economy and a living culture of any country. This is a leading producer of a large and complex industry having strong forward and downfall linkages in terms of material course and revenue generation.

India holds a position as the world’s 4th largest steel producer of raw steel and is expected to improve and hold the second position by 2020.
The steel industry in India contributes to around 2% of GDP and offers employment to over 0.6 million people. The increase in Steel production from a couple of decades is visible. Steel Industry gets its interest from other significant segments like foundation, aeronautics, designing, development, transportation, vehicle, pipes and cylinders, and so on.
The Indian steel industry is highly consolidated and holds about 50% of the raw steel capacity is resident with incorporated steel manufacturers.
